This is where life happens:
at the crossroads between faith and doubt,
on the borders between "us" and "them".
It happens in the edges and the gray areas.
Real life includes gay and straight, mother and father, immigrant and citizen, believer and skeptic.
It defies our fences and categories, our attempts to define who is out and who is in.
We believe Jesus's table is wide and welcoming:
that it includes the marginalized and downtrodden now, just as it did back then.
The religious leaders of Jesus's time were scandalized by the company he kept.
May they be scandalized by ours as well.
These songs are music for the inclusive church,
for the growing movement of Christians who are fleeing toxic misunderstandings of the good news,
and instead are trying to recapture Christ's counter-cultural message.
The empires of the world do not have the final say.
There is something new happening, something unexpected.
And all are welcome. All are loved.

Map & Compass consists of Jackie and Matt LeFevers, a wife-and-husband duo from Chandler, Arizona. They have been worship leaders in the Valley of the Sun since 2008. Outside of their Sunday services, they spend the rest of the week playing anything from folk to death metal, and have released several dozen albums under a variety of band names. Map & Compass is their attempt to bring that same indie creativity and inclusive spirit to the worship of God.

We believe that worship has many sides and many stories,
and that God can be reached in more ways than one. |
While we love the Church,
we also love those who have been hurt by it. We see the beauty in tradition but we also hope for change. We lean on faith but we also experience doubt. We have questions, and we refuse to be afraid of them. We are comfortable with contradiction. We don't believe that faith and doubt are opposites. We don't believe that a passion for thinking, learning, and wrestling with ideas is incompatible with a love for scripture, for Jesus, for God. |
